Mat 2:1 Τοῦ δὲ Ἰησοῦ γεννηθέντος ἐν Βηθλέεμ τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἐν ἡμέραις Ἡρῴδου τοῦ βασιλέως ἰδού, μάγοι ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν παρεγένοντο εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα
1 But of Jesus being generated within Bethlehem of Judea within the days of Herod the king. You must be comprehending! Magians from (the) east1) they generated aside into Jerusalem. |
Mat 2:1 now Jesus on being engendered in Bethlehem Judaea in the days of Herod the king you must be beholding wise men from the East came into Jerusalem |
Mat 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Mat 2:2 λέγοντες, Ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ τεχθεὶς βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων εἴδομεν γὰρ αὐτοῦ τὸν ἀστέρα ἐν τῇ ἀνατολῇ καὶ ἤλθομεν προσκυνῆσαι αὐτῷ
2 The ones stating: Where is he housed, the one born2) king of the Judeans? For we comprehended his star within the east,3) and we were invited to worship him. |
Mat 2:2 Saying where is he one being born the king of Jews for we saw his star in the east and we came to worship to him |
Mat 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Mat 2:3 ἀκούσας δὲ Ἡρῴδης ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐταράχθη καὶ πᾶσα Ἱεροσόλυμα μετ' αὐτοῦ
3 But (on) hearing, Herod the king was upset*, and, all Jerusalem with4) him. |
Mat 2:3 now Herod the king on hearing was troubled and all Jerusalem with him |
Mat 2:3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
Mat 2:4 καὶ συναγαγὼν πάντας τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ γραμματεῖς τοῦ λαοῦ ἐπυνθάνετο παρ' αὐτῶν ποῦ ὁ Χριστὸς γεννᾶται
4 And, leading together all the exemplar-priests and scribes of the people he determined with/by them, where the Christ is being generated. |
Mat 2:4 and on gathering together all the priests and scribes of the people he asked beside them where the Christ is being born |
Mat 2:4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
Mat 2:5 οἱ δὲ εἶπον αὐτῷ Ἐν Βηθλέεμ τῆς Ἰουδαίας· οὕτως γὰρ γέγραπται διὰ τοῦ προφήτου·
5 But they insisted to him: 'Within Bethlehem of Judea? For it has been written thus through the prophet:' |
Mat 2:5 now they said to him in Bethlehem of Judaea for thus it has been written through the prophet |
Mat 2:5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
Mat 2:6 Καὶ σύ Βηθλέεμ γῆ Ἰούδα οὐδαμῶς ἐλαχίστη εἶ ἐν τοῖς ἡγεμόσιν Ἰούδα· ἐκ σοῦ γὰρ ἐξελεύσεται ἡγούμενος ὅστις ποιμανεῖ τὸν λαόν μου τὸν Ἰσραήλ
6 “And you Bethlehem of the land of Judea, do not think you are inferior among the leaders of Judah. For out of you the leading one shall be paving/stoning/tiling/roading out , he shall be shepherding my people Israel.” |
Mat 2:6 and you Bethlehem land of Juda you are not the least in the governors of Juda for out of you shall be coming one governing who shall be feeding my people Israel |
Mat 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
Mat 2:7 Τότε Ἡρῴδης λάθρᾳ καλέσας τοὺς μάγους ἠκρίβωσεν παρ' αὐτῶν τὸν χρόνον τοῦ φαινομένου ἀστέρος
7 Then Herod, secretly calling the Magi aside, exacts from them the time of the star's appearing. |
Mat 2:7 Then Herod secretly calling the wises men inquired beside of them a time the of star appearing |
Mat 2:7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
Mat 2:8 καὶ πέμψας αὐτοὺς εἰς Βηθλέεμ εἶπεν Πορευθέντες ἀκριβῶς ἐξετάσατε περὶ τοῦ παιδίου· ἐπὰν δὲ εὕρητε ἀπαγγείλατέ μοι ὅπως κἀγὼ ἐλθὼν προσκυνήσω αὐτῷ
8 And sending them into Bethlehem, he insisted (of) the ones being turned 5), you must examine 6) regarding the little boy. But, if ever you should find (him), you must re-message to me where, and I, the one allowing (this), should be worshiping. |
Mat 2:8 and on sending them into Bethlehem he said On going you must ask diligently concerning the child now when you should be finding you must tell me how and I on coming should be worshiping him |
Mat 2:8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
Mat 2:9 οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες τοῦ βασιλέως ἐπορεύθησαν καὶ ἰδού, ὁ ἀστὴρ ὃν εἶδον ἐν τῇ ἀνατολῇ προῆγεν αὐτοὺς ἕως ἐλθὼν ἔστη ἐπάνω οὗ ἦν τὸ παιδίον
9 But hearing from the king, they were turned out. And you must be comprehending! the star which they comprehended within the east (Anatolia, up-rising), it led them until the one allowing it stood over where the little boy was. |
Mat 2:9 now on hearing the king they departed and you must be beholding the star which they saw in the east went before them until on coming it stood over where the child was |
Mat 2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
Mat 2:10 ἰδόντες δὲ τὸν ἀστέρα ἐχάρησαν χαρὰν μεγάλην σφόδρα
10 But the ones comprehending the star, they were joyed with a great, intense joy. |
Mat 2:10 now on seeing the star they rejoiced [with an] exceedingly great joy |
Mat 2:10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
Mat 2:11 καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν εὗρον τὸ παιδίον μετὰ Μαρίας τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ πεσόντες προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ καὶ ἀνοίξαντες τοὺς θησαυροὺς αὐτῶν προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ δῶρα χρυσὸν καὶ λίβανον καὶ σμύρναν
11 And the ones permitted into the household, they found the boy with Mary his mother and falling, they worshipped him. And opening their treasures before him, presents of gold, and frankincense and myrrh. |
Mat 2:11 and coming into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother and falling they worship him and opening up their treasures they offer to him gifts gold and frankincense and myrrh |
Mat 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
Mat 2:12 καὶ χρηματισθέντες κατ' ὄναρ μὴ ἀνακάμψαι πρὸς Ἡρῴδην δι' ἄλλης ὁδοῦ ἀνεχώρησαν εἰς τὴν χώραν αὐτῶν
12 And negotiated against an actual dream (trance/vision) to bend towards (before) Herod. They increased distance through another way (route) into their own territory. |
Mat 2:12 and being warned according to a dream not to return before Herod they departed into their country through another way |
Mat 2:12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
Mat 2:13 Ἀναχωρησάντων δὲ αὐτῶν ἰδού, ἄγγελος κυρίου φαίνεται κατ' ὄναρ τῷ Ἰωσὴφ λέγων, Ἐγερθεὶς παράλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ φεῦγε εἰς Αἴγυπτον καὶ ἴσθι ἐκεῖ ἕως ἂν εἴπω σοι· μέλλει γὰρ Ἡρῴδης ζητεῖν τὸ παιδίον τοῦ ἀπολέσαι αὐτό
13 But of them - the ones increasing distance, you must consider: An angel of the proprietor according to (against) a dream to Joseph stating; (On|) being aroused you must be taking-aside into Egypt (the vultures) and you must be there until, if ever I should be insisting to you. For (because) Herod is seeking the boy to destroy (re-grain) him. |
Mat 2:13 now of their departing you must be beholding the angel the of lord appearing [to] Joseph according to a dream saying On being araised you must be take the child and his mother and you must be fleeing into Egypt and you must be there until ever I should be saying to you for Herod should be seeking the child to destroy him |
Mat 2:13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
Mat 2:14 ὁ δὲ ἐγερθεὶς παρέλαβεν τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ νυκτὸς καὶ ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς Αἴγυπτον
14 But being aroused he took the boy and his mother aside by night. And increased distance into Egypt (vultures). |
Mat 2:14 now on being araised he took the child and his mother by night and he departed into Egypt |
Mat 2:14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
Mat 2:15 καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἕως τῆς τελευτῆς Ἡρῴδου· ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑπὸ τοῦ κυρίου διὰ τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος Ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἐκάλεσα τὸν υἱόν μου
15 And he was there until the termination of Herod so that it should be fulfilled the one being rumoured under the Proprietor through the first declarer, ones stating; “Out of Egypt (vultures) I call my Son.” |
Mat 2:15 and he was there until the death of Herod so that it should be fulfilled the one being said under the Lord through the prophet saying out of Egypt I call my son |
Mat 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
Mat 2:16 Τότε Ἡρῴδης ἰδὼν ὅτι ἐνεπαίχθη ὑπὸ τῶν μάγων ἐθυμώθη λίαν καὶ ἀποστείλας ἀνεῖλεν πάντας τοὺς παῖδας τοὺς ἐν Βηθλέεμ καὶ ἐν πάσιν τοῖς ὁρίοις αὐτῆς ἀπὸ διετοῦς καὶ κατωτέρω κατὰ τὸν χρόνον ὃν ἠκρίβωσεν παρὰ τῶν μάγων
16 Then Herod comprehending that he was played under (by) the Magians, he was (made) very furious. And, re-equiping he holed (buried) all the boys within Bethlehem and within every one of its borders from two years and downwards according to the time which he exacted besides the Magians. |
Mat 2:16 Then Herod on perceiving that he was mocked under the wise men he was wroth exceedingly and sending forth he killed all the children in Bethlehem and in all her coasts from two years and downwards according to the time which he inquires beside the wise men |
Mat 2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.
Mat 2:17 τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑπὸ Ἰερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος
17 Then he fulfilled the one being rumoured under Jeremiah the first-declarer stating. |
Mat 2:17 Then it ws fulfilled the one being said under Jeremy the prophet saying |
Mat 2:17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
Mat 2:18 Φωνὴ ἐν Ῥαμὰ ἠκούσθη θρῆνος καὶ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὀδυρμὸς πολύς· Ῥαχὴλ κλαίουσα τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν παρακληθῆναι ὅτι οὐκ εἰσίν
18 A voice is heard within Rama, death-songs and wailing and mourning for they are not. |
Mat 2:18 in Rama it is heard a voice a lamentation and a weeping and a great mourning Rachel weeping after her children and she willed not to be comforted that they are not |
Mat 2:18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
Mat 2:19 Τελευτήσαντος δὲ τοῦ Ἡρῴδου ἰδού, ἄγγελος κυρίου κατ' ὄναρ φαίνεται τῷ Ἰωσὴφ ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ
19 But of the ending of Herod, you must be comprehending, an angel of the Lord appears according to a dream to Joseph in Egypt. |
Mat 2:19 now on dying Herod you must be beholding an angel of the Lord appearing according to a dream [to] Joseph in Egypt |
Mat 2:19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
Mat 2:20 λέγων, Ἐγερθεὶς παράλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ πορεύου εἰς γῆν Ἰσραήλ· τεθνήκασιν γὰρ οἱ ζητοῦντες τὴν ψυχὴν τοῦ παιδίου
20 On stating, (on) being roused you must take the little boy and his mother aside and you must turn into the land of Israel for (because) the ones seeking the soul of the little boy have ended. |
Mat 2:20 Saying on being araised you must be taking the child and his mother and you must be going into the land [of] Israel for they have died the ones seeking the child's soul |
Mat 2:20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.
Mat 2:21 ὁ δὲ ἐγερθεὶς παρέλαβεν τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς γῆν Ἰσραήλ
21 But (on) being roused he took the little boy and his mother aside (away) and he was received(invited) into the land of Israel. |
Mat 2:21 now on being araised he took the child and his mother and came into the earth Israel |
Mat 2:21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
Mat 2:22 ἀκούσας δὲ ὅτι Ἀρχέλαος βασιλεύει ἐπὶ τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἀντὶ Ἡρῴδου τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἐφοβήθη ἐκεῖ ἀπελθεῖν· χρηματισθεὶς δὲ κατ' ὄναρ ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὰ μέρη τῆς Γαλιλαίας
22 But on hearing that Archelaus is reigning upon (over) Judea in (the) place of Herod his Father, he was afraid to be re-permitted there. But being negotiating against a dream he increases distance into the divisions of Galilee. |
Mat 2:22 now on hearing that Archelaus is reigning upon Judaea [in place of] his father Herod he was afraid to be going there now on being warned according to a dream he departs into the parts of Galilee |
Mat 2:22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
Mat 2:23 καὶ ἐλθὼν κατῴκησεν εἰς πόλιν λεγομένην Ναζαρέτ· ὅπως πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ τῶν προφητῶν ὅτι Ναζωραῖος κληθήσεται
23 And the one allowed, protectively houses into the city stated (as) Nazareth, That is how it should be fulfilled the one being rumoured through the prophet, “so that he shall be called a Nazarene.” |
Mat 2:23 and on coming he dwells into a city one being said Nazareth it should be fulfilled the one being spoken through the prophets that he shall be called a Nazarene |
Mat 2:23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
